“Iran losing strategic asset as Arab support declines”

     Scott Peterson reports that the continuing protests and violent crackdowns in Iran are costing the regime its popularity among Arabs, long an “important vector for power projection.” Citing several Arab and Western analysts, Peterson suggests that the regime may have passed the peak of its power as it loses is revolutionary legitimacy and pan-Islamic appeal. However, Peterson adds that ties with Hezbollah, Hamas, and Iraqi organizations will remain strong through continued material support from Iran, and Iran’s positions against Israel and the US remain popular (Christian Science Monitor).
