“A smuggler’s procurement of nuclear dual-use pressure transducers for Iran”

“A smuggler’s procurement of nuclear dual-use pressure transducers for Iran”
July 14, 2009, Case report by David Albright, Paul Brannan and Andrea Scheel
ISIS briefly reviews the case of Mahmoud Yadegari, an Iranian-Canadian arrested in April on charges of attempting to smuggle US-manufactured nuclear dual-use components into Iran from Canada via Dubai. Yadegari is accused of buying two pressure transducers, which can be used in gas centrifuge plants, and attempting to export the items from Toronto after disguising their contents and value. It is unclear whether Yadegari or Iranian officials initiated the deal. Canadian authorities have reportedly seized over two dozen nuclear-related items in the past year and believe the UAE is the main “turntable country” through which Iran illicitly imports dual-use items. The report concludes that Iran likely seeks such items in the US before importing them through multiple turntable countries.
