“Iran denies nuclear deal with China”

“Iran denies nuclear deal with China”
May 14-20, 2009
Iran has denied a recent report by Amir Taheri (New York Post) of plans for China to build 20 nuclear plants in Iran over the next decade (Fars News Agency). Raymond Tanter argues that while China is willing to pursue nuclear cooperation with Iran, Taheri’s concern that spent fuel from such reactors could be used for nuclear weapons is only a worst-case scenario. Yitzhak Shichor believes that China is not capable of producing 20 plants and that the claims are a means to “upset Washington” as part of broader China-US tensions (Jerusalem Post).
