“US-Russia cooperation seen as unrealistic”

“US-Russia cooperation seen as unrealistic”
May 13 & 15, 2009
Martin Matishak reports that US conservatives are rejecting the possibility that Russia will cooperate with the US to stop Iran’s nuclear program. Former UN ambassador John Bolton and former defense undersecretary Eric Edelman believe Moscow will not support sanctions against Iran (Global Security Newswire).
Mark N. Katz writes that Moscow would prefer a nuclear-armed Iran to losing its status as Tehran’s strategic partner. Katz believes Moscow is particular concerned that improvements in US-Iran relations will reduce Moscow’s access to Iran’s arms, nuclear and energy sectors, and he argues that the US does not need Russian cooperation over Iran (Washington Institute for Near East Policy).
